seminary ads

currently, i have no future plans (or desire) to go to seminary. and while flipping through a christian mag this past week, these seminary ads failed to win me over. honestly, i'm a little perplexed to know what sort of person they are trying to appeal to.
disclaimer: these are fine seminaries and i know people who have gone to both schools. nothing against you gordon-conwell or dallas....to kill you!
so, is this little phrase trying to attract lumberjacks or serial killers to go to seminary?
2 beefs: 1. i haven't ever thought of owning an axe or comparing anything of mine to an axe and 2. i didn't know it needed sharpening.

oh, but this killed me:
i am assuming that this ad is trying to target actors or other creative professionals. however, i have a little trouble seeing how this shot of this prof as "marley" would invoke any sort of attraction, unless you were strangely into andrew lloyd webber's "cats" performed by mentally unstable hobos.
eeeh, that creeps me out.

american ink

i like blending into thailand. i used to like being mistaken for thai; i'd take it as a compliment.

but, 3 separate americans at different times this weekend didn't recognize me for being american. and i was speaking english. do i speak with an accent? is it because i am ethnically asian that they assume that i'm nationally asian, too? needless to say, i was annoyed.

i love america. and i love being american.
here, i can use it as a free ticket anywhere. just whip out my american accent and i'm as good as vip. i've noticed that since i've been mistaken for thai more and more (by thai and americans), i try to use my english to show my american-ness.

i'm thinking i might need something a little more, how shall we say it...obvious? flashy? gaudily blatant?

tadaa!! full back tat.here's a little vote: which should i get (i.e. which would be the most patriotic)?
a. bald eagle
b. american flag
c. guns and military
d. indian chief (slightly ironic, no?)
e. some patriotic manifesto or document (say, declaration of independence)
f. or some other blended combination of the above. for example, see friend above. cause hey, why get a tattoo on part of your body when you can use the whole thing?

quartet of july

happy fourth!
i completely forgot that it was independence day in the us. i realized that i really do love america. i love how many different cultures and peoples there are, i love independent thinking, i love how diverse the landscape is, i love the abundance.
in lieu of fireworks, a literary device will have to do. sorry; it's not nearly as exciting. imagine "stars and stripes forever" playing while you read. cue piccolo.

4th day of july. 4 chambers of the heart, 4 letter words, fantastic 4, 4 seasons, 4 gospels, 4 food groups, 4 basic states of matter.
4/4 time

can't say i'll ever
find this look beautiful
the ostentatious, yet loved
thai aesthetic: chicken temple
one day someone said
ba jaew moved out
she's working else where
and i miss her
i have just about
4 friends in bangkok
so all you expats
out there, call me.
i hate all animals
at least the ones
that poo a lot
those cursed, morning birdshit it feist...
